Farid Lamrid, head of studies for sector 1 project management

What are your missions within the project management of sector 1?

The construction of sector 1 of the Canal is shared between the different companies of the Team'O+ group. At Tractebel, we take care of the Montmacq reach – the section of the Canal between Cambronne-lès-Ribécourt and Passel – for which we are responsible in particular for the earthworks, geotechnics and sanitation aspects. On this reach built essentially by widening the side canal to the Oise, we have a large
work on maintaining the watertightness of the pre-existing structure.

What is your job at this stage of the project?

For this year, I have a double role, study and fieldwork, which is rare and very interesting. I am carrying out both the continuation of the design studies for the Montmacq reach and the management of the construction of the Ribécourt-Dreslincourt and Pimprez quays on the Oise side canal, which will be delivered at the beginning of 2023. As such, I relies on a team of four people: a works supervisor, a geotechnical engineer and two specialized engineers who are in the field full time.

“Several projects in one, so many technical challenges to overcome.”

How do you intervene with the companies in charge of the work?

I have daily discussions with my team's works supervisor, and I go there every week for a site meeting with the group of companies that manages the construction of the two quays. We start with a complete visit to the construction sites and continue our discussions in the room to determine the follow-up to be given for the smooth running of the work.

What distinguishes this project from other infrastructures in your view?

First of all, its purpose: to reduce road transport in favor of river transport, I like the idea! And then, it's a structuring project for my region, with a very environmental dimension, in the heart of a nature that I appreciate and travel on a personal basis.
Beyond the Canal itself, the project provides for landscaping, landscaping and ecological development. I look forward to being able to enjoy it myself in a few years, with the gratification of having contributed to it!
