Building a canal also means building career paths. This is the whole point of the visit from the European Commission's Directorate-General for Employment (DG Employment), which came to discover the integration and access to employment initiatives developed around the Seine-Nord Europe Canal construction site thanks to the support of the European Social Fund.
At the Maison du Canal in Marquion, the teams from the Société du Canal Seine-Nord Europe and the Department of Pas-de-Calais were able to present the ambitions of the project and the mechanisms that allow the inhabitants of the territory to benefit from the economic spin-offs of the construction site.
Among them, Canal Solidaire , deployed as part of the Grand Chantier initiative , supports people far from employment towards sustainable integration pathways and promotes local recruitment.
The visit continued at the A2 viaduct construction site in Ytres, where discussions with SANEF, the Caroni company (Vinci group) and the VIE (Vinci Insertion Emploi) teams highlighted a concrete reality: behind the structures, there are women and men who are training, finding employment and building their future.
