The Seine-Nord Europe Canal Company (SCSNE) awarded contracts on Monday, September 30th, for the construction of two work platforms, one in Noyon (Oise) and the other in Aubencheul-au-Bac (Nord). Work is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2025.
These work docks will be available to future contractors for the works contracts, who will have to use them for supplying the construction sites.
Following the construction of quays in Pimprez and Ribécourt-Dreslincourt in the Oise region, these are further measures to implement the material supply and excavated material management plan. This plan, approved by the SCSNE Supervisory Board in October 2020, aims to maximize carbon-neutral transport by river or rail for the construction site.
The contract for the quay works in Noyon has been awarded to the group of companies Charier Génie Civil and Lhotellier Travaux publics and will be carried out over a planned period of 8 months.
It is located on the banks of the Canal du Nord, in the Oise department. This work quay consists of a 9,5m wide berthing face on a 100m long quay. It will facilitate the use of the waterway, thus reducing heavy goods vehicle traffic on the roads. It will be used primarily for the main works on the Noyon lock (a lock chamber 197m long, 12,5m wide, and with a drop of over 21m). It will be used by companies to transport or remove materials, particularly the supply of aggregates for the construction of the Noyon lock.
The group of companies Charier Génie Civil and Lhotellier Travaux publics will launch the preparation of the site over 3 months, and the work will then begin in the first quarter of 1 and will last 2025 months.
The contract for the quay works in Aubencheul-au-Bac has been awarded to a group of companies Spie Batignolles Nord, Spie Batignolles Valerian and Spie Batignolles Fondations and will be carried out over a planned period of 12 months.
The structure to be built is located in the commune of Aubencheul-au-Bac, on the Sensée Canal, a large-gauge waterway, in the Nord department (59). This work platform will also facilitate the use of the waterway, thus reducing the environmental impact of the construction site. It will be used for the main works on the Oisy-le-Verger lock (25m drop, one of the highest on the Canal), as well as the works in section 4 of the Canal (reaches 5, 6 and 7), particularly for the supply of aggregates.
The group of companies Spie Batignolles Nord, Spie Batignolles Valerian and Spie Batignolles Fondations will launch the preparation of the site over 3 months, and the work will then begin in the first quarter of 1 and will last 2025 months.
The Seine-Nord Europe Canal Company has committed to creating conditions conducive to increased transport during the construction phase. This includes the construction of ten work berths (a total investment of around €20 million) and the introduction of a modal shift clause in the works contracts, allowing the construction site to be supplied with building materials partly by boat rather than by road, thus guaranteeing a reduction in CO2 emissions from the construction site.
