The members of the Scientific and Technical Committee (CST) of the Seine-Nord Europe Canal have been renewed, following a call for applications launched by the SCSNE in December 2025. Gathered at the invitation of the board of directors of the Seine-Nord Europe Canal Company for the installation session under the chairmanship of Geoffroy Caude, the new members of the CST were able to exchange ideas with Vincent Hulot, member of the board and Benoit Deleu, Technical Director to set their objectives and their work schedule.

The role of the scientific and technical committee

The Scientific and Technical Committee is an independent expert body tasked with advising the SCSNE Board of Directors on specific questions raised by the SCSNE regarding the design, construction, and commissioning of the Seine-Nord Europe Canal during the tendering, construction, acceptance, and commissioning phases. Its members are appointed for a three-year term by decision of the SCSNE Board of Directors.

With the design phase now complete, the committee is called upon to give its opinion on the implementation phase . It is specifically asked to review anonymized technical proposals from candidates and provides input during the detailed design phase on the implementation methods for complex structures identified in earlier phases. It may also be consulted in the event of technical risks arising during the construction phase and during the commissioning and filling phases.

The scientific and technical committee reports to the board of directors of the SCSNE.

The scientific and technical committee comprises 3 commissions, constituted as follows:

  • a commission on "earthworks and civil engineering structures" competent in the design and construction of canals and water storage structures (subject to regulations on the safety of hydraulic structures);
  • a "works of art" commission competent in the construction of engineering structures and canal bridges.
  • a "locks-operation-maintenance" committee competent in the design and construction of locks and in the operation and maintenance of waterways;
