Home > News and events > Great turnout in Artois and Cambrésis for the Nesting Boxes campaign
Since the end of October 2024 , residents of the towns and villages along the Canal du Midi in the Artois and Cambrésis regions have had the opportunity to register and receive a birdhouse to install in their garden. In total, nearly 500 people have already volunteered… Thank you to everyone for this wonderful initiative!
These nest boxes and shelters , generously provided by SCSNE, are manufactured and delivered by two regional ESATs (Establishments or Services for Assistance through Work) located in Roye and Allaines, in the Somme department. A wonderful way to showcase the expertise of the Hauts-de-France region while preserving biodiversity around the Canal.
The operation was extended a few weeks ago to schools located in the vicinity of the Canal.
After installing their nest box, each person will have to monitor it and share with the Société du Canal Seine-Nord Europe all their observations during the five nesting seasons planned for this operation (period 2025-2029).
Adherence to this monitoring is essential, as the information provided by each participant will allow for the compilation of statistics necessary to assess the success of the operation. This success stems from the commitments made by SCSNE regarding environmental compensation measures in each territory, at the project level.
The main objective is to ensure that different species of birds invest in these nest boxes and make them their new habitat in the long term.
