The Supervisory Board of the Société du Canal Seine-Nord Europe (SCSNE) met this Thursday, December 7 at the Hôtel du Département du Pas-de-Calais in Arras. Many subjects were on the agenda: the review of the forecast budget for 2024 which stands at €120M for future work in all sectors combined, and €44M for the preparatory work for the rerouting of networks and preventive archaeology.
The agenda also saw discussions on the energy transition policy of the SCSNE and the signing of the partnership agreement with the OPPBTP (Professional Organization for the Prevention of Building and Public Works). In the second part, the Steering Committee of the Major Construction Project took place.
Aiming for energy optimization in the design and construction of the Canal , placing climate change at the heart of discussions and decisions , and making the Seine-Nord Europe Canal a framework for partnership with local communities – these have always been the ambitions of the SCSNE. Developing this energy policy involves three objectives : limiting the carbon footprint, building a canal resilient to climate change, and building a canal that catalyzes energy transition projects.
To support this policy, many actions have already been implemented by SCSNE such as: supporting the workers in their mobility near the construction site, in collaboration with the Hauts-de-France Region, integrating climate change resilience from the start of construction by low carbon design with the use of lime or low carbon concrete or designing the Canal for climate change through water management.
Putting safety and innovation at the service of all stakeholders in the construction of the Seine-Nord Europe Canal : this is the essence of this partnership with the OPPBTP (Professional Organization for Prevention in the Building and Public Works Sector). The first key action of this partnership is the implementation of a "prevention passport" designed to raise awareness of site safety among all workers and members of the SCSNE (Seine-Nord Europe Canal Safety and Prevention Society).
The focus was on reviewing 2023 and looking ahead to the various initiatives within the Grand Chantier project. Currently, approximately 500 people work daily on the Canal. Through the Canal Solidaire program, nearly 100,000 hours of work integration have been completed within companies contracted by SCSNE. Regarding business support, via Canal Entreprises, over 800 companies have been informed about the project through seven officially recognized events.
