Call for projects: "Creation of islands of senescence"

Published January 13 2026

The Seine-Nord Europe Canal Company is launching a call for projects concerning the creation of senescence islands in the departments of Oise, Somme, Pas-de-Calais and Nord.

This call for projects addresses the need to create senescence patches within existing woodlands, as part of the Seine-Nord Europe Canal (CSNE) project. Senescence patches are forest areas left to evolve naturally, without any human intervention. No trees are harvested there, allowing them to complete their natural life cycles (mature stages, collapse, and even decomposition). This type of forest offers numerous cavities, cracks, and deadwood, helping to preserve biodiversity.

Applications are accepted until May 10, 2026, and may be reviewed from the start of the call for projects until 2 weeks after the end of the call for projects.
