The first bridges are being built – March 2023

Discover the "behind the scenes" of the manufacture of the first bridges

If you travel between Montmacq and Cambronne-lès-Ribécourt, you have certainly seen the first abutments “come out of the ground”, in particular those of the bridges which will cross the Oise and the future Canal Seine-Nord Europe.

After the first reinforcement operations, the pouring of concrete, which allows the construction of the first abutments, was carried out at the end of January 2023. Currently, the formwork and concreting of the structures are continuing. If these operations are visible on the site, the structural steel deck of the Seine-Nord Europe Canal bridge takes shape in a manufacturing workshop located in the Meuse. Once finalized, the framework will be delivered to the site in 16 meter sections. These sections will then be butted (assembled end to end) on the site in order to continue the construction of the bridge. See you in about a month!

Then, current bridges of the side canal to the Oise and the Oise will be demolished in order to continue the construction of these three new bridges, in continuity with one another (bridge over the Oise, over the CSNE and over the Canal Lateral à l'Oise). This operation will require the RD 66 to be closed for several months from the end of 2023, for which the dates will be communicated as soon as they are stabilised.

Did you know?

  • The abutment of a bridge is the part of the structure that serves as a support for the ends of a bridge and allows the weight of the deck to be supported.
  • Apron is the horizontal structure of the bridge that supports the traffic load. It is therefore the part that will then be equipped (with asphalt for vehicles or rails for trains, for example) to allow circulation on either side of the bridge.

Numbers:

  • 105m : span of the triple girder structure crossing the Seine-Nord Europe Canal,
  • 46m : span of twin-girder structures crossing the Oise side canal and the Oise river,
  • 3T : quantity of asphalt needed to build the roads.
