Throughout the Canal project, the teams from the Société du Canal Seine-Nord Europe have designed structures that are both efficient and economical in terms of materials, water and energy.
Thus, in Marquion, in Pas-de-Calais, a lock prototype made it possible to test a solution of thin walls (day walls) reinforced by earth embankments, in order to limit the use of new materials or those coming from elsewhere. A real technical innovation!
As part of an artistic project, students from College of the Marches of Artois dressed the lock demonstrator
by Marquion-Bourlon of a painted fresco.
This fresco was inaugurated at the beginning of July in the presence of Pierre Georget, President of the Osartis-Marquion Community of Communes, Véronique Thiebaut, Departmental Councilor of Pas-de-Calais, Dominique Bertout, Mayor of Corbehem and Vice-President of the Osartis-Marquion Community of Communes, Bruno Plomion, Principal of the Collèges des Marches de l'Artois, Yves Legros, Community Vice-President responsible for culture and sport and Mayor of Villers-lès-Cagnicourt and Jacques Petit, Mayor of Marquion.
This work is the result of a local partnership between the Société du Canal Seine-Nord Europe and the Collèges des Marches de l’Artois.
It was carried out by students from the adapted general and professional section (SEGPA) and the 4th grade classes of the college.
This work allowed the students to work on painting techniques on different supports in accordance with a graphic charter which had been given to them beforehand.
