Europe and employment on the agenda of the Supervisory Board

Posted on 15 June 2018

The Supervisory Board of Société du Canal Seine Nord Europe met on June 14, 2018 in Lille.

The European Commission, permanent guest

On the initiative of Xavier Bertrand, the Commission is now a permanent guest of these meetings. During his speech, Jean-Louis Colson, representing the European Commission presented the proposals of the European Commission made in May 2018 for the evolutions from 2021 of the "interconnection mechanism in Europe", mechanism which finances the Seine Canal -Northern Europe.

Increase funding for cross-border projects

The Commission has proposed that cross-border projects, such as the Seine-Escaut network within which the Seine Nord Europe canal is inserted, could see their rate of financing of works increase from 40 to 50%. This proposal will be debated in the coming months in the Council and the European Parliament.

First concrete actions for employment

During this meeting, the Supervisory Board validated a framework partnership agreement for the implementation of the Canal Emploi system. This agreement, signed between Pole Emploi and the Société du Canal Seine Nord Europe, provides the general framework which aims to make the Canal an opportunity for local jobs. Development of a kit of skills expected from canal trades, training sessions in the skills expected of a major construction site for the referents of Pôle Emploi, sharing of information for the development of a construction site observatory are among the first actions committed.

Employment at the heart of the first major construction site convention

“Canal Emploi” is thus the first system of the Grand Chantier approach, piloted by the prefect of Hauts de France, to have a framework partnership agreement. The Société du Canal Seine Nord Europe is currently preparing other partnership agreements for integration (Canal Solidaire, with the departments), companies (Canal Entreprises with the CCI Hauts de France and the Hauts de France region), training ( Canal Formation with the Hauts de France Region) and for the reception of site employees (Canal Accueil with the DREAL Hauts de France).
