Environmental facilities at Pontpoint

From October 20, 2022 to October 20, 2022

A missing link in the French river network, the Seine-Nord Europe Canal (CSNE) is part, like the MAGEO* project, of the Seine-Escaut link, 1er large-gauge European river network aimed at developing river transport of goods and thus meeting the economic and ecological challenges of our time.

Carried out under the project management of the Société du Canal Seine-Nord Europe (SCSNE) based in Compiègne, the project is eco-designed and is accompanied by numerous ecological developments such as lagoon banks or hydraulic annexes, for example. It is about creating a living Channel. Its design and construction avoid impacts, reduce them or, if necessary, compensate for them. As part of the construction of the 18 km of sector 1 between Compiègne and Passel, 391 ha of compensation are thus necessary.

These offsets target areas to be restored with strong potential for environmental recovery. It is for this reason that the site of the pond n°5 of Pontpoint was chosen to carry out 35 ha of environmental development.

This work will consist of partially backfilling the pond, maintaining 15 ha of open water, in order to restore wetlands, in particular reedbeds and wet meadows, and thus increase the environmental functions and biodiversity potential of the site.

Pond n°5 was acquired by the SCSNE in February 2020. Pending work, it is currently secured and maintained by a hunting association under an agreement signed with the SCSNE. The beneficiary of the agreement was selected by call for projects.

The provisional work schedule will be defined in the coming months.

The SCSNE will be present at a public meeting to explain the project to you and answer your questions on Thursday 20 October from 18 to 30 p.m. at the Salle polyvalente de Pontpoint.
