The digging of the Seine-Nord Europe Canal, 107 kilometers long, will generate significant volumes of surplus land that Seine-Nord Europe Canal Company (SCSNE) wishes valorize. This strategy was set in October 2020 by the Supervisory Board, chaired by Xavier Bertrand, through the SCSNE Materials Supply and Spoil Management Plan. In this context, it seeks partnerships with stakeholders in Hauts-de-France, to promote reuse of these excavated materials, especially for land development projects.

The Oise-Aisne Agreement, joint association in charge of reducing the risk of flooding throughout the catchment area of the Oise, Aisne and their tributaries, is developing a project to increase the storage capacity of floods near Longueil-Sainte-Marie, which would require 800 m3 of materials for the purpose of building embankments.

The Seine-Nord Europe Canal Company and the Oise-Aisne Entente signed, this Tuesday, June 14, 2022 in Laon, a provision of 400 m3 of excavated materials on Sector 1 of the Canal (18,6 km from Compiègne to Passel in the Oise) for the needs of the Oise-Aisne agreement. The materials will preferably be transported by waterway.

The signing of this agreement is the operational realization of the desire of two public contracting authorities to develop the territory in a circular economy and respect for the environment.

Valuations of volumes of land, like this one, are sought by the SCSNE with other communities with development projects on the entire length of the future Canal.
