The environmental authorization for sector 1 has been signed by the Prefect of Oise

Published on 14 April 2021

The environmental authorization order for the Seine-Nord Europe Canal for sector 1, going from Compiègne to Passel in Oise (60), was signed by the Prefect of Oise on Thursday April 8, 2021 and published on Monday April 12, 2021. This decree thus authorizes the construction of the first 18,6 kilometers of the canal, by precisely defining the conditions of this construction site, while respecting the environment and the territory.

A decree that paves the way for the first works on the Canal

The environmental authorization decree signed on April 8 by the Prefect of the Oise is the final stage of a procedure initiated in 2019. It will have mobilized the State services, the territorial actors and the national experts of the environment, as well as the inhabitants during the public inquiry which took place last fall. The order validates the detailed design work conducted by the Seine-Nord Europe Canal Company (SCSNE). By this order, the State specifies all of the authorized developments and the measures that must be taken during the works. The environmental authorization is the culmination of a long process. Very in-depth studies and consultation have made it possible to design river and environmental developments that will fit harmoniously into the middle valley of the Oise, between Compiègne and Passel, while respecting human and environmental issues.

And now on Sector 1…

The signing of this environmental authorization order paves the way for first works of the Seine-Nord Europe Canal. They will gradually get involved from this spring, in particular by building two roundabouts at Choisy-au-Bac and Ribécourt-Dreslincourt, then two platforms at Ribécourt-Dreslincourt and Pimprez this summer, before more substantial work from of autumn. On this sector of 18,6 kilometers in the Oise, the environmental developments include 391 ha of ecological sites created and restored. the construction of these facilities has already started. After the first developments in Bienville in 2017; the planting in March of more than 6 trees, including European elms, a protected species in Hauts-de-France, on a 500-hectare plot was carried out in Chiry-Ourscamp in the Oise (see report on the Canal Seine-Nord Europe website). 17 other sites will be gradually developed in the Oise valley.

The Seine-Nord Europe Canal Company will continue information and meetings with residents, local residents, to continue to explain the Seine-Nord Europe Canal, its agenda, its next steps, listen to their expectations and prepare for the upcoming work.
