OPPBTP, SCSNE's safety partner, has chosen the Canal construction sites for its annual governance seminar

On March 24, the OPPBTP (French Construction Industry Health and Safety Organization) brought together the presidents and vice-presidents of its regional and national committee boards for their annual seminar. This year, they chose the Seine-Nord Europe Canal construction sites for this annual meeting, providing an opportunity to exchange best practices in safety and prevention, and to highlight the actions implemented within the framework of the partnership between the OPPBTP and the SCSNE (French National Construction Safety and Safety Organization).

OPPBTP Visit to the Canal Construction Sites

More than 60 participants from OPPBTP , administrators and collaborators, were present to discover the construction sites and take stock of joint projects.

Among the guests were the Presidents and Vice-Presidents of the 11 regional councils, the National Council, representing all the professional and trade union organizations of the construction industry, including the FFB, the FNTP, the FSCOPBTP, the CAPEB, FO, CFE-CGC, CFDT, CFTC and the CGT, the management committee, as well as the directors of regional agencies.

The participants were first able to visit the Canal House in Compiègne , and discover the exhibition dedicated to the archaeology around the construction sites, before going to some nearby construction sites , including the discovery of the rescinding of the Oise, the lock of Montmacq-Cambronne-les-Ribécourt and the environmental developments at Chiry Ourscamp.

The discussions with the teams were rich and constructive, reinforcing a common ambition: safety as the number 1 priority.

Implementation of the OPPBTP and SCSN agreement

The partnership agreement between OPPBTP and SCSNE , the result of actions undertaken previously and signed in December 2023, aims to strengthen prevention on the Canal construction sites. Together, they have committed to building a genuine safety culture throughout the project so that each stakeholder – SCSNE, project management, health and safety coordinators, and construction companies – participates in reducing accidents.

Among the commitments made, particular attention is paid to compliance with regulations , raising awareness among all staff involved , and collecting and disseminating feedback , in order to bring about innovative or effective good practices in occupational risk prevention for the benefit of all.

This agreement is being implemented through several concrete actions: 

  • The Canal+ prevention passport: Mandatory for all workers on the construction site, it provides a common foundation of knowledge, standardizes practices, and raises awareness of risks among the workers. The workers must complete it during the firster months to arrive on the construction site. Learn more about the Canal+ prevention passport
  • The "Frankly Safe Construction Site" charter Signed in 2024 with the FNTP, the OPPBTP, and with the active participation of the Drieets and Carsat Hauts-de-France, this charter sets the priorities for sustainably integrating risk prevention from the design of works and during the development of contracts.   • The Stop Collision system SCSNE made the Montmacq-Cambronne-les-Ribécourt lock construction site available to OPPBTP to test its Stop Collision system under real-world conditions with a 23-tonne Develon hydraulic excavator and a 15-tonne loader. This system enables automatic emergency braking and improves operator safety.
