The project is built in partnership with the territory. For example, the location of disposal sites for surplus materials from earthworks has been the subject of extensive consultation with the municipalities and the agricultural world. This land will mainly be returned to farmers after being developed for regain good agronomic quality.
Particular attention is paid to the environment : a Grande Faune passage will be created in Hermies, many water outlets will be fitted out for the animals… Several sites will be the subject of ecological developments, including the Sensée valley, the Agache marsh and the Bois Durieux .

Following the granting of environmental authorization in 2024, the project continues to gain momentum in Artois and Cambrésis.
In parallel with preventive archaeology operations and pyrotechnic soil decontamination, network operators have begun the first works to divert their infrastructure.
Several construction sites, which are all Markers of the project's progress in the area are currently underway with the completion of the Aubencheul-au-Bac quay-works and the construction of the A2 motorway viaduct in Ytres.
The year 2026 will mark a new stage in Artois and Cambrésis, with the launch of construction work on the Oisy-le-Verger lock, the second highest lock on the Canal route.
The main works will begin in the second half of 2027.
