The safety of infrastructure and people remains the absolute priority of the Seine-Nord Europe Canal Company. As such, on the Seine-Nord Europe Canal construction site, safety is everyone's responsibility at all times.
The prevention policy was adopted by the Supervisory Board on June 24, 2022. It frames the deployment of an organized, monitored and planned prevention approach before, during and after the execution of works contracts around 10 operational objectives.
Within the meaning of the Société du Canal Seine-Nord Europe, the notion of prevention describes all the actions, attitudes and behaviors that tend to avoid the occurrence of illnesses or injuries or to maintain and improve the health and safety of personal.
It has the imperative objective of preventing all the safety risks that the construction of the Seine-Nord Europe Canal engenders.
This commitment is evident in the meticulous attention paid to the design of the structures that will punctuate the Canal: locks, bridges, reservoirs, and so on. The technical criteria of the Seine-Nord Europe Canal Company (SCSNE) meet and exceed the regulations applicable to this type of structure. The project also benefits from the expertise of specialists gathered within the Scientific and Technical Committee. The Seine-Nord Europe Canal is designed to withstand a once-in-a-decamillennial flood, meaning that there is a one in 10,000 chance of such an event occurring each year.
Beyond design, during operation, SCSNE is also committed to the reliability of infrastructure, ergonomics and simplicity of maintenance of structures and the integration of real-time monitoring devices.
The construction site is receiving considerable attention, with a demanding risk prevention policy at all levels. SCSNE, the companies involved, and the prefectures are working closely together on these daily issues.
This integrated vigilance from the design stage will ensure the safety of people during navigation and along the Canal after construction . Near the locks, for example, boaters and the teams responsible for operating the Seine-Nord Europe Canal will have access to numerous safety features. And at many points along the route, access roads will be built to allow emergency services to intervene.
