A first restoration put into service

Published on 4 March 2025

The new D66, between Montmacq and Cambronne-lès-Ribécourt, has been reopened to traffic since the afternoon of Tuesday, March 4, 2025. Its new route connects the two municipalities with modern and secure infrastructure.

A recovery composed of 3 bridges

This first road restoration carried out as part of the CSNE consists of 3 structures which are perpendicular to three waterways; the Oise, the future Seine-Nord Europe Canal and the lateral canal to the Oise (CLO).

In addition to the road restoration, a 3-meter-wide greenway , separated from vehicular traffic by a concrete wall along the structure, has been created within the Canal project's right-of-way. Reserved for cyclists and pedestrians , it allows for safe crossing of the bridges and connects to the Trans'Oise cycle route, planned for later development by SCSNE and the Oise Department, on one of the Canal's service roads. A few more operations are still required before the greenway can be opened to pedestrians and cyclists . It is expected to open in May 2025.

On the other side of the road, a sidewalk providing access to the service areas has been built. This is only accessible to the construction teams and subsequently to personnel authorized to monitor and maintain the works.

The bridge over the Oise split

Shifted eastward from Cambronne-lès-Ribécourt to Montmacq to make way for the Seine-Nord Europe Canal, the Oise in its new bed is crossed by a bridge with a span of 46 meters , located upstream of the bridge it replaces to be aligned with that of the Canal.

While the first abutment of the structure was completed as early as the winter of 2022-2023, construction of the northern abutment had to wait until a section of the old Oise riverbed was filled in the following summer. Fully assembled on the ground, the bridge's twin-girder structure was lifted and placed in a single unit between the two abutments in the autumn of 2023. Nineteen prefabricated reinforced concrete slabs, each measuring 13m by 1,95m, were then positioned over the following months to form the bridge deck.

By the end of 2024, the roadway and its equipment will be completed after the construction of the embankments.

The first of the bridges over the CSNE

The first CSNE bridge to be built , the RD66 bridge in Cambronne-lès-Ribécourt is also the largest in sector 1 between Compiègne and Passel, with a span of 105 meters.

After earthworks were carried out in the fall of 2022 and the installation of the retaining piles, the companions set about building the abutments with the reinforcement, casting, formwork and concreting operations during the first half of 2023.

In parallel, the steel structural components of the bridge were prefabricated in a workshop in the Meuse region. Delivered in 16-meter sections, they were assembled on-site before being positioned by crane and welded between the abutments . The complete assembly of the structure and the installation of the deck slabs were carried out by the summer of 2024. Following this, embankments were built around the abutments to bring the road level with the bridge.

A higher bridge over the Oise lateral canal

The last structure of the trio of bridges on the RD66 re-established in Cambronne-lès-Ribécourt, the bridge over the Oise lateral canal (CLO) replaces the bridge installed in 2000.

To align with the bridges over the Seine-Nord Europe Canal and the Oise River , a structure higher and longer than its predecessor was installed. The deconstruction of the existing bridge— removal of the metal deck and demolition of the supports—took place in February 2024, after the ecologist gave the go-ahead, confirming that the nest discovered beneath the bridge was indeed uninhabited. Reconstruction work then proceeded immediately.

The abutments of the new bridge were erected in the first half of 2024, while its steel structure was assembled on the ground before being lifted into place on July 10. The installation of the deck – with a span of 46 meters – and the construction of the embankments followed during the summer, before the road construction and the installation of road infrastructure in recent months.

Did you know?

The abutments of the CSNE bridges are designed to anchor the structures to their surrounding area . On each bank, the name of the municipality crossed by the Canal and its kilometer marker are inscribed on the bridge abutment. These inscriptions are made of UHPC ( ultra-high-performance fiber-reinforced concrete) plaques . Beyond its aesthetic appeal, this concrete is characterized by high resistance to deformation and abrasion, as well as exceptional durability.
