After initial operations forced by winter flooding, preparation for work on the Montmacq / Cambronne-lès-Ribécourt lock will continue until this summer with the construction of a raised platform to keep the work area above water.
To do this, earthworks are being carried out south of the road that connects Thourotte to Montmacq (rue du Général Mangin / rue Roger Martin). Dumpers, material transport vehicles used on construction sites, then transport the spoil to the construction site area where it is stored, aerated and treated with lime to evacuate the water it contains.
Once sufficiently dry, they are used to create the raised platform which will allow the work to continue in dry conditions over the coming winters.
After this preparation phase, the construction of the lock begins with the creation of a watertight enclosure made of concrete walls, called diaphragm walls.
The walls of the lock are dug out using trenches, into which metal reinforcement cages are inserted. Concrete is then poured into the metal cages to form the diaphragm walls and thus create a watertight enclosure.
The walls of the central chamber of the lock are built first, then those of the upstream and downstream heads of the lock and finally, the pumping station.
