Construction of the first lock on the Canal route will begin this summer in Montmacq and Cambronne-lès-Ribécourt. A significant step planned over nearly 4 years, which will mobilize an average of 150 to 200 people per month.

Located in the 2 communes, the Montmacq lock – Cambronne-lès-Ribécourt ensures the junction of the downstream and upstream reaches of sector 1 and will allow the crossing of a height difference of 6,41 meters.

Replacing the 2 current locks of Bellerive and Longueil-Annel, this unique crossing associated with the widening of the waterway, allowing a higher speed, will save around an hour of navigation time between Compiègne and Pont-L'Évêque

It is a group of 8 companies, including the agent is Bouygues Travaux Publics Régions France SAS, which was selected by SCSNE in December 2023 to carry out the work on the sector 1 lock. 

The realization of the work will start by the end of 2024, after the establishment of the life base and the creation of tracks and platforms, with the creation of the molded walls. The objective is to build a watertight enclosure made up of concrete walls, before the digging of the volume of the lockEither approximately 200 m³The significant movements represented by the supply of materials and the management of spoil for this site were anticipated; if truck traffic is unavoidable on the surrounding roads, the use of the river route – via the Oise lateral canal – or rail will be favored.

Le lock pumping system de Montmacq – Cambronne-lès-Ribécourt was designed to perform several functions. 

Beyond the very activity of the lock, it ensures thewater supply to the entire Canal. And during peak floods in the Oise, the pumps have capacities allowingevacuate part of the water towards the different reaches of the Canal, thus helping to reduce the effects of these episodes.

Building the lock in 4 steps

Step 1: the molded walls

The lock walls are dug by trenches, into which cages ofmetal frames.

Le Concrete is then cast in metal cages to train the diaphragm walls and thus create a waterproof enclosure.

Step 2: earthworks

Between the concrete walls, a first earthwork is carried out over a few meters allowing the installation of props temporary horizontals (large metal tubes called struts) to maintain the grounds. Then a underwater earthworks is carried out using a long-arm excavator, revealing the depth of the lock.

Step 3: civil engineering

Le write off (ground) of the lock is then made of concrete, as well as the final walls of the structure. THE temporary props are removed.

Step 4: equipment

Once the volume of the lock has been achieved, the surrounding land is backfilled, operating and pumping buildings are built and thework is equipped (doors, pumps, aqueducts, valves, ladders, planting an orchard, etc.).
