The resurgence of the Oise continues

December 5, 2023

To free up the space needed for the Seine-Nord Europe Canal between Thourotte and Montmacq, the Oise river is moved to the east for almost 4 kilometers. This rescinding work, the technical term which designates this operation, started in September 2022 and continues until the end of 2023.

To move the Oise, a new bed is created in two parts: 650 m southwest of Montmacq and 2,9 km between the Thourotte – Montmacq municipal road bridge and that of the RD 66 between Montmacq and Cambronne-lès -Ribécourt. It respects the natural characteristics of the river route (slope, winding, width, etc.) while promoting the creation of areas conducive to biodiversity.

The different stages of the rescinding of the Oise

Step 1: digging

The new bed is dug to the east of the current Oise. Water from the groundwater quickly comes to the surface. Riprap and geotextile are put in place to stabilize the newly dug banks.

Step 2: connection

Connections are opened between the two beds. The river gradually borrows its new bed.

Step 3: before commissioning

The old arms are cut by dams. The aquatic fauna is fished and then released in the new bed.

Step 4: Backfill

The spoil from the digging is used to backfill the old bed pending the development of the Canal. They are also used to make the railings of bridges during construction; 3 bridges on the RD 66 between Montmacq and Cambronne-lès-Ribécourt and bridge on the RD 40 bis in Pimprez.
