An opportunity for local businesses, and employment

The Seine-Nord Europe Canal is the central link of the Seine-Escaut link, the largest European river transport network which will irrigate Normandy, Île-de-France, Hauts-de-France and Belgium.

It will connect our agricultural, industrial and logistics companies to the major ports of the Channel and the North Sea and therefore to new French, European and global markets.

It will also make them more competitive, thanks to reduced transport costs for the supply and distribution of their goods. Because its large size will accommodate boats measuring up to 185 meters long and transporting up to 4 tonnes of goods.

Major assets that will make businesses stronger and stimulate the creation of thousands of jobs in the region.

A driving force for regional development

The creation of the Canal Seine-Nord Europe will bring out a large economic fabric, in its surroundings and in Hauts-de-France with the network of existing canals and ports.

In the 4 new inland ports developed in Marquion-Cambrai, Péronne, Nesle and Noyon, business parks will be created and will promote the installation of new industrial, agricultural and logistics activities as well as port and multimodal services.

More dynamic, our territory will attract more companies and as many job opportunities.

One more step towards the ecological transition

More boats means fewer trucks on the road, much less. The Seine-Nord Europe Canal plans to remove one million trucks from the French road network each year.

How?

Thanks to the massification of transport by river (a large boat can transport the equivalent of 220 trucks at once) and thanks to the development of multimodality with rail or road transport. For the inhabitants, it means less traffic jams and less pollution.

The most ecological mode, river transport can reduce CO2 emissions by 3 to 5 times, depending on the size of the boats.

A new natural and landscaped living environment

To create a canal is to create a new living environment around the water.

Landscaping is thus one of the strong points of the Seine-Nord Europe Canal which aims to fit naturally into the territory crossed and offer pleasant places to live.

Plantations, cycle paths, pedestrian promenades, fishing pontoons, equipment for pleasure boating… Residents and visitors will be able to take advantage of this renewed environment offered by the Canal.

Turned towards Europe but deeply rooted in Hauts-de-France, the Seine-Nord Europe Canal is a project for the future for businesses in our region. It carries great ambition, reconciling economy and ecology, and great promises for the lives of the inhabitants.
